So since Ankylocodon and The Great Otter chose me to become an admin, i'll try to become one sooner or later, but i'll try my best.
What's on your mind?

Wiki Management
I may have use the word purge wrongly. But you know what I'm getting at.
So, I was checking up on wiki activity when I saw that Murphdog had uploaded an image with some unspecific title which I have now forget only several minutes later. Anyways, I renamed it without a redirect and updated the page.
And then I found that both KaptainWombat and Whanggoldpaw had uploaded images with names along the lines of Image.jpg. So I renamed those too. Now I'm realizing that even though I thought I had gotten rid of all of these images, I hadn't. And there are probably more.
In addition, we need to license everything. Again, Murphdog forget to even license himself with his image. If possible we should do that too. And delete images that are likely copyrighted. And I know I'm going kind of far with this, but with images that are substantially smaller from the original on Wikipedia, could we upload a larger size?
So yeah, everyone, especially the admins, please help me with this. Just go to Special:NewFiles and start looking at images. To keep track of all this, we might need to make some sort of image review template.
Also, when you're moving images, delete the redirects. And in addition, I think that it might just be better to make like Wikipedia and upload "Do not upload images with this title" to pages like File:Image.jpg or File:Unknown.jpg.
I don't know if anyone else has noticed this, but I've recently seen page titles being indented and are really distracting the layout. I wrote a post on community central about it, although no one's responded.
If anyone would like to help, thanks a lot!
I think it's definitely time we change the main page template that says "Welcome to the New Wiki!". I was just about to do that myself, when I realized I don't quite know what to put in.
Tell me if you have any suggestions for what to write, or what to replace the image with.
So, as you probably know, Frozen in Time is completely up and running again, and as a consequence so am I. Other than me, Minespec is really the only person making active contributions. So, I'd like to ask you all, what are your plans for activity?
I'd like to see where we're going to be in the future. Also, how do we compare with the forums in terms of actual content and projects? I'd like to figure which projects are actually active. Like, not just theoretically active, but actually are be contributed to regularly.
Finally, a poll, so I can put this all together and see whether or not the wiki is hopeless…
My money's on that last one to be the most common.
Last December, I believe, I handed over the title of head admin to Myotragus. Since then, neither of us have been active. I'd like to appoint a new head admin.
I know it sounds a bit ridiculous, but it's just a matter of time before our inactivity brings the wiki to ruins, with trollers destroying the entire wiki. It could really be someone entirely new. In fact, it should be.
Perhaps a forum member. If we have the patience to wait a month or two to check how experienced and responsible a new wiki member could be, then that's fine as well. And it's not a problem at all if, say, KW or Harekiller decide to be more active; they could take the position.
Or not. It's just a thought.
MagneticHyena has recently added continent categories, but I removed them in response to a post I remember from when the wiki was first created; it stated clearly that no continent categories are to be used. But they could prove to be useful. So, I will do a poll. I'm not going to vote, because I'm neutral on the issue.
In addition, MH, just so you know what you're doing, I introduce you to the Manual of Style.
Alright, it's been five months since the founding of this new wiki, and whilst it's looking great (the background could use a little bit of work though), there is now community to speak of. With only a handful of users that are actively contributing to the discussion (I wish I could come on more often, but both school work and my menial job are my number one priorities at the moment), I can't help but notice that this wiki hasn't lived up to the expectations some of us might of wished for when we originally created it 'oh-so-long ago'. When you can count the number of contributes to your wiki on one hand (all of which were here when this 'encyclopaedia' started out), you know there is a clear problem, and one that has to do with the sheer fact that we are boxing ourselves off from the wider speculative evolution community.
Why aren't we broadcasting this site to ZetaBoards or the plethora of other spec-ev forums?
Why aren't we actively searching for new and interesting members to bring into our little space on the internet?
Have we given up expansion to other's worlds and ideas to begin to simply lounge about on this wiki and have the same old contributors create unfinished scenario after unfinished scenario on a platform that could offer so much more?
To add onto this; what was the motivation of those that left the original speculative evolution site? Clearly it was the refusal to allow user- and community-driven scenarios by Admantus, but now as I look over to the first home of our hobby, I find it desolated, with no admin or central leadership in site, a single message atop the main page that stating "This wiki has been moved to spec-evo.wikia.com". When I look at that, I take a moment to reflect on the events that led us to split from our father wiki and I begin to wonder if there is the possibility of drawing them back together somehow.
From what I see and what I read in order for this community to flourish like it once did (the original wiki had reached over 1,000 pages some far time in the past), we need to begin by consolidating the two wikias into a single entity (how this would occur, I do not know in full due to the fact that there is no clear leadership on the other site). However, further steps need to be undertaken to not only sustain a group of like-minded individuals, but also allow it to proliferate and prosper, with policies such as mass advertisement on forums and websites such as the community on ZetaBoards, as well as the relaxation of strict interventionist policies.
That is to say; in order to ensure the growth of contributors to a future united Spec-Evo wikia, we would need to allow some of the more 'ridiculous' aspects of the community to post their ideas and projects, because to outright mock, deride or outright delete the pages and projects that the more serious users would consider 'silly' would just further serve to isolate the community from interacting on the site and limit the growth of more seriously inclined contributors (case-in-point being the policies of Althistory Wiki, which is one of the largest on wikia which simultaneously allows utterly baffling content through their front doors).
However, these are only some of my beliefs and ideas, and whilst you may or may not agree with them, it is clear that we need to expand beyond the 'borders of wikia' and stimulate the growth of a thriving community like the speculative evolution wikia of old.
P.S - For the love of god this background needs to be changed
We need a better way to categorise our wiki images. We need to categorise them by subject, and strictly enforce uploading policies. Opinions?
I just created an email account so our wiki can have a YouTube channel. I'd like to see if anyone would like to participate. What this requires is for you to record your voice, but nobody's going to have pictures of themselves on YouTube.
This YouTube channel is going to just be discussing general speculative evolution (not the wiki, although we could use some of our projects), and hopefully this will give our wiki a big popularity boost.
Currently, I can't give the password, or give anyone permission into the account, so I'm going to have to mostly manage this with your input. If anyone else feels like managing, you can ask for me to PM you on the forums (the live chat PM deal is too confusing).
It's time to vote on the new featured project; What if the Asteroid Missed? is no longer featured in a week. Let's do this one in a forum thread, it makes things much easier. First, let's get two or three candidates, then make a poll.
I've begun to like Dinosaurs of the Ice Age, although pictures would certainly make it more featured project worthy. At least one per page, and a logo is recommended.
I've recently seen how infoboxes can make page layout very annoying with the right column in place. For example, see The Time Machine; the text is extremely squished. I'm thinking of using CSS to remove it, but I need other people's consent. Opinions?
For a number of reasons, I'm thinking of disabling Live Chat.
- Sometimes it decides to work, sometimes it doesn't. It gets quite annoying having to always test it.
- I don't want any wars going around without leaving a record. Last time I checked, it deletes messages after a few minutes.
I'm doing research on whether this needs to be done to change the site name only in the browser window, and if so, that's the third reason.
Opinions?
So, I'm back to school as of today, and will have very little time to be on the wiki during the week. Don't expect me to be on the wiki for over an hour per day during the week.
Myotragus, you can mostly take things over for the next week or two, I think your break lasts about a week longer.
Most of us have probably noticed the numerous wikis with some sort of slogan or description at the top of the browser window. By default this is just your wiki name, but many wikis have changed it. For example, on Walking With Wikis, their title is "Walking With Wikis - BBC, Walking With Dinosaurs, Cavemen, Beasts, Monsters". I think we should put in a request for a title.
My idea is "Speculative Evolution Wiki – Taking Evolution into Your Own Hands". Any other ideas?
